Sharing Web Resources
For my search this week, I was lucky to find DC Action for Children. They formed the nonprofit DC Action for Children to help break the cycle of poverty through early interventions in the lives of DC’s youngest children. DC Action for Children worked to improve outcomes for children by focusing on a broad array of issues, including early care and education, child welfare, child health and youth development.
In the websites blog section, I found article related to equity and excellence in early child education. They posted a blog discussion and it's Committing to Equity and Excellence for Young Black Children examine  critical issue of providing access to quality early childhood programs to African American children. In a collaboration with the Center on Enhancing Early Leaning Outcomes
and the The White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans their brief addresses the inequities in access for African American children before they even start public school, and how “equitable access to good early childhood education offers great potential for reducing the achievement gap for African-American children.”

  1. The more I read, the more I learn that African American children are coming into this world at a disadvantage - there is a system in place to slow down their progress. It is very disappointing the more I read. Initially not being familiar with the US system I found it hard to believe, but I understand the full extent of how they are struggling.

  2. This is good information. Many African American children do not know about the resources available or that there are really people out in the world that want to help them. Some feel that because they are African American, they can not do anything. They have the same right to education as everyone else has.

  3. Thank you Naire for your post. Every child should have equal right and access to education. It is good to read about the governments commitment to ensuring this especially for African American children. The real disadvantage now comes when these families dont make good use of the opportunities they have.
