I chose National Head
Start Association in the section about us, it explains the importance of head
start programs to vulnerable children.
Head Start is a comprehensive early
childhood education and it is essential because it benefits children, families,
and communities. They use evidence-based practices and partner with
community-based organizations to help remove child and family barriers to
success. The Head Start investment is effective and means that children are
more likely to graduate from high school and college, are less likely to need
special education services, and are less likely to repeat grades. We are
proud of the positive impact Head Start has on our society, one child at a
time.
Head Start programs work
collaboratively with local schools, childcare providers, community service
providers, and families to meet the needs of a new generation and ensure all
children have a brighter future.
In 2013
Head Start programs faced devastating budget cuts and many teachers lost their
jobs and decrease in their pays. As a result the NHSA organized events and they
showed how cuts impacted local communities and a Rally in Washington, D.C.
7,740 letters supporting Head Start were sent to Congress
in 2013,10.769 letters
supporting Head Start were sent to
the White House in 2013. More than 30,000 mentions
of Head Start in the media in 2013. They have monthly
alumni e-newsletter that keeps the alumni’s
connected and they share their
stories and this will help the head start supporters to fund.

Thank you for sharing about the Head start program. I have more understanding of the program now. Its good thing that some people believe in the program and continue to push for its support. Though investing Early years has its clear benefits funding is still much of a challenge.

I am aware of the head start program but I was not aware that funding was dramatically cut. Where cuts made to invest in another program, a 'better' one? I have peaked my interesting and now I have some late night research to do.
