Personal Research Journey

I chose to do my research on dual language learning. My interest in this topic developed from my previous course while studying about diversity and demographic changes and my research topic is influenced by my background. My family and I immigrated to the United States from Iraq, and my nationality is Armenian. Therefore, we speak Armenian at home and also Arabic. My son is 15 months old born in the United States and conceder’s second-generation immigrants.  We want him to learn Armenian language and the culture as well. We speak Armenian with him at home and it the only language he knows. He will eventually will learn English at school and he don't want him to forget his native language. Therefore, enrolling him in a dual language learning program will benefit him to learn the english language and not forget his Armenian language. I have done my research on dual language learning. Based on my research, I have found Dual learning encompasses exposure of learners to more than one language. There are numerous benefits that are associated with exposing children to dual language 1) It facilitates development of reading skills and promotes reading achievement 2) Improves level of literacy among the students right from their early age, and 3) promotes wide range of vocabularies. There are varied views from scholars in regard to the benefits associated with dual language learning.
Would like to share couple articles that I found from Walden library search for this weeks assignment in regards dual language learning. check them out if you want to learn more about this topic
