Research that Benefits Children and Families

The research topic that I chose is How Parental Involvement Benefit Kids and this topic bring many positive contributions to early childhood. Based on my experience working in the field I have seen that parental Involvement fosters academic achievement when their parents are involved with their schoolwork. Compared to students whose parents are uninvolved, kids with involved parents get better grades and are thought more highly of by teachers. Also, working with Kids, I have noticed kids whose parents are involved with their schoolwork attend school more regularly than kids whose parents are uninvolved. I think this probably occurs for a number of reasons. For example, I can relate to myself my parents who were involved, they kept encouraging consistent attendance and I always wanted to make them proud. Therefore, I had perfect attendance though out my school years. I was also getting homework support from my parents and this helped me to feel more academically competent comparing to other kids who's parents weren't involved. Finally, Parents involvement in education also aids kids' social functioning. For example, in my class the kids with involved parents have better peer interaction than kids with uninvolved parents.

  1. Naire,

Your research topic - How Parental Involvement Benefit Kids is an awesome one. Often parents in ECE do not understand the importance of them coming to the program. Our program offers family conferences three times per year and many of our families do not come. But have lots of questions about their child's academic success.

  2. Hi! Family involvement is imperative to a child's development. Sometimes this can be hard when working with parents that have tight work schedules. I've known parents that no matter how well we made accommodations for families that worked, some were simply unable to to be 100 % involved. I can only hope that for the parents that have trouble with being involved in their childs development and education are able to squeeze in some amount of time to be active. Even a little bit of their time can make a difference.

    Thanks for sharing!
