In the first assessment "communication Anxiety Inventory" I scored 55, and that is considered moderate communication anxiety and known as “situational” (Rubin et al., 2009). I was not surprised by the results because when I communicate in public, my anxiety level is higher. For example, I am not comfortable in public speaking, and when I have to speak, my anxiety level will get high and start experiencing a pounding heart, sweaty hands, and dry mouth. In the second assessment "verbal aggressiveness scale" I scored 60. According to the result, I am considered moderate in verbal aggressiveness, which means” I maintain a good balance between respect and consideration for others viewpoints, and the ability to argue fairly by attacking the facts of a position rather than the person holding that position” (Rubin et al., 2009).  I was not surprised with this result because knowing myself I do not verbally and aggressively attack people while communicating and I listen to their argument and argue back with respect.  In the last assessment "listening styles profile," I scored 38, and I belong to group 1 “people- oriented.” According to the result, I am considered “empathetic and concerned with the emotions of others,” and again I was not surprised by the result. I selected two people my brother and a friend to fill out the evolution forms for me. Their results were very similar, and there are some differences and similarities to my results about myself. For communication anxiety inventory assessment my brother’s and friends result were the same. The level of anxiety they described is low, and that means they see me as comfortable communicating in all most all the situations. This result surprised me because this is not the same way I describe my level of communication anxiety. It also made me feel good about myself because I might have high-level anxiety during communication, but the other person won’t notice it. For verbal aggressiveness scale, my brother’s result was same as mine, which is moderate and my friend's result was none. My friend's result did not surprise me because I have never argued and verbally attacked her. I am always respectful and careful with my communication. On the other hand my brothers result was the same as mine because with him my communication is based on respect and arguing without attacking aggressively. For listening styles, they both described me as “people-oriented,” and this result is the same as mine. Based on my results and the two people’s results, there are more similarities than differences. The results show that people perceptions of me, as a communicator are similar to my perception of myself.

  1. Hi Naire

We scored on the same level for verbal aggressiveness and listening style. I scored elevated on the communication anxiety assessment. Like you, I get very anxious and nervous when I have to communicate with new people or a group of people. Sometimes it even feels like I'm about to have a heart attack! The people I chose to assess me also came up with the same results as i did. They did score me a little lower on the communication anxiety assessment. I feel that that is because another person can't ever really assess how anxious another person can get!

  2. Hi Naire,
We are both listed as people oriented for the listening scale. My communication anxiety score was lower than yours but my verbal aggressive results were higher not completely sure what it all means. But I liked being able to see the scores between my mother and boyfriend who completed the quizzes about me.
While having my mom do it I kept laughing because she kept referring to herself when I asked her the question. I had to remind her that it was about me. Being able to look at these type of things continues to give us much awareness about ourselves and I think that this is so important in our field.
