My husband and I were on a plane with an African American colleague last month. The flight attendant told us to sit anywhere, so we chose seats near the front of the plane and across the aisle from one another. At the last minute, three Americans white men entered the plane and took seats in front of us. Just before takeoff, the flight attendant, who is White, asked if we would mind moving to the back of the aircraft to better balance the plane's weight. We grudgingly complied but we felt discriminated when she said   "move to the back of the plane." When we expressed our feelings to the attendant, she denied and became defensive, stated that her intent was to ensure the flight's safety, and wanted to give us some privacy. Since we had entered the plane first, I asked why she did not ask the white Americans men to move instead of us. She became indignant, stated that we had misunderstood her and she claimed did not see "color," suggested that we were be...
For this blog post, I interviewed three people from different cultures the  1st person is Hispanic, 2nd person is Indian and 3rd is African American. 1st person defined future as "  culture consists of the traditions and customs of people." The 2nd person defined culture " Culture is the systems of knowledge shared by a relatively large group of people." The 3rd person defined culture as"culture refers to the cumulative of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, hierarchies, and  religion." African American culture is the one I picked because its very different than mine. I interviewed my neighbor and she was kind enough to tell me about her culture and traditions.     She stated, “Many of our life lessons were often given by our elders in the form of stories, jokes, and the spirituals, which serve often song in the fields, as well as, on Sunday mornings. Yet, as a people, we thought it necessary to hold on these priceless tea...
The three items I would bring with me if I had to leave my country behind are first a photo album that  I have included all the pictures of my childhood, my family, friends,  wedding and honeymoon pictures. The photo album is so important because it not only tells my individual story but also tells the timeline of my life with my family. The second item I would bring is my wedding ring that my husband gave me. It is not just a piece of jewelry to me but is a symbol of the commitment that we have made to one another. The last item I would take is a bible. Christianity plays a big role in my culture growing up and now. My parents taught me to pray and put Jesus in every step I take in  my life. Therefore, having the  bible will reminds me of my culture and how to be true christian.  If I was told, upon arrival that I was only able to keep one of the items that I brought with me, I would feel lost and cant choose which one to ...
My research simulation is encouraging duel language learning in the early childhood field and its important issue in diverse communities because most parents speak more than one language and they want their children to speak the same languages and not loss it. Therefore, providing duel language programs in early child cares will benefit children to not forget their home language and learn English at the same time. Many studies have shown Proving children dual language programs in the childcares will benefit children and improves level of literacy among the students right from their early age, and promotes wide range of vocabularies. Families and children will benefit from your efforts to incorporate dual language teaching strategies that help guide young learners as they acquire two or more languages. I chose Early Childhood Australia website because they focus is on advocacy, influencing many significant issues relevant to the care, wellbeing and education of young children in Australia. ECA advocates to ensure quality, social justice and equity in all issues relating to the education and care of children aged birth to eight years. Their mission statement got my attention “ Every young child is thriving and learning.” As I was exploring the website under parent resources, I found some interesting topics that they cover. Some of the topics are Children’s health and nutrition, sleeping, separation anxiety and first year at school. All the topics provide great information that is useful for parents and especially for new parents like me. New parents are always worried and want answers to everything about their child. Therefore, hot topics like these topics are important to cover for parents who are looking for answers. In the Event section, I found interesting i...
