I recently had a disagreement with my dad for treating my younger brother not fairly. My dad thinks that my younger brother is not responsible and doesn’t care about saving his money. I have heard my dad screaming at him and telling him that he needs to grow up. Based on the conflict resolution that we studied this week communication climate is important is how we talk to one another. In this case, my dad is not showing empathy to my brother while communicating with him. He needs to understand his feeling and try to solve his issue with him differently and understanding his point of view. In this case the   three R’s, which is consist, of Respectful, Reciprocal, and Responsive, building positive interactions to promote effective relationships. Its important for my dad and brother to understand about the three Rs. This would positively impact communication because we must first respect others and our differences. The respect needs to be reciprocated between people. Reciprocating re...
In the first assessment "communication Anxiety Inventory" I scored 55, and that is considered moderate communication anxiety and known as “situational” (Rubin et al., 2009). I was not surprised by the results because when I communicate in public, my anxiety level is higher. For example, I am not comfortable in public speaking, and when I have to speak, my anxiety level will get high and start experiencing a pounding heart, sweaty hands, and dry mouth. In the second assessment "verbal aggressiveness scale" I scored 60. According to the result, I am considered moderate in verbal aggressiveness, which means” I maintain a good balance between respect and consideration for others viewpoints, and the ability to argue fairly by attacking the facts of a position rather than the person holding that position” (Rubin et al., 2009).  I was not surprised with this result because knowing myself I do not verbally and aggressively attack people ...
Each culture has its own set of dominant values, beliefs, and prejudices. Signs of these may emerge when communicating with people from other cultures. Therefore, to build relationship Yes, I do find myself communicating differently with people from different cultures and groups. I try not to be judgmental and having a communication with open mind instead of arguing . I am polite and use formal modes of address. For example, calling people by first and last name, with a title such as Mr. or Ms. I avoid slang and profanity and I think this is important, unless you are absolutely sure how it is used in another culture. Using non-standard language improperly can make you hard to understand, and may be perceived as very offensive. If I cant understand someone, or think that he or she did not understand me, I say something about it. I avoid being rude or offensive, and patiently explain the problem. It’s usually better to be upfront than to let a problem in communicat...
For this blog post I picked the show The King of Queens and it a show that I have never heard of it and watched. Therefore, it was a great example to use for my blog post. When I watched the show with sound off, I was amazed of how much I was able to understand without listening to their conversation. The couple seemed like trying to solve some issues in their marriage and they live together. They are not too happy with their relationship The husband seems someone is driving an RV while he was driving his truck and he decides to buy one . He had a big smile on his face and was super excited to tell his wife once he gets home. It seemed like the wife didn’t like the idea, she walked away when he told her. after arguing for many hours they decide to flip a coin. They end up getting the RV. My assumptions were some correct; the couples were going though some difficulties in their relationship and the RV was for vacation he was planning for himself and his wife. Howeve...
